FACT: About 18,000 Americans die each year because they don’t have health coverage, according to the Nonpartisan Institute of Medicine.

I took an entire class on health economics and it depends on how you look at it. I have to digg through my notes and get some sources. But I think that this might be slightly wrong. In other words those that are insured and uninsured are just as healthy.

From that table, although I don't understand it completely I see for 2005 a total number of uninsured people as 46,577 (in thousands) and below that the number of non-hispanic whites at 22,144. That is just under 50%. I'm not sure about the true accuracy or how the data was determined, but for what it's worth that is where they came to their conclusion.
