This finance findings report comes to you via my brand new computer I just finished building. About a month ago, my old desktop finally decided to stop working. Granted, it is over five years old and I probably could have fixed it with a new power supply, but a five year old computer is ancient when it comes to technology. So, I hit up newegg.com and began putting together a system. For any computer geeks that are interested, the highlights of the system are:

  • 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo
  • GeForce 8800 GTS 320MB
  • Abit IP35 Pro Motherboard
  • 2GB DDR2 RAM

Of course, I also got a new fancy case, big power supply, and I’m throwing in a collection of my various old hard drives to complete the system. Unfortunately, I only have SATA1 drives and an old IDE drive, so they are the real bottleneck for the time being, but I’ll get by. So, I’m going to play with my new toy all weekend, but you should check out these great links from the past week:

Where to Keep Your Savings - I put together a piece that highlights the most common savings vehicles, and the pros and cons of each.

Is the Small-Cap Party Over? - I sure hope not. I have been doing extremely well the past year or two with small and mid-cap investments. The Sun has some information that may be indicating that it is.

Ways to Save Money and Reduce Debt: Roth IRA - If you are eligible to participate in a Roth IRA, I recommend you do so. Even if you can’t afford to fully fund it, something is better than nothing. You will thank yourself in 25+ years.

Money Saving Project: Eat and Cook at Home - This is a great idea, and I encourage everyone to try and eat more meals at home. Granted, busy schedules and cooking ability might not lend itself to be an everyday thing, but eating at home can shave a few inches from the waistline and fatten your wallet.

How Much Passive Income Can You Buy With… - Lazy Man does a good job illustrating what it takes to create passive income. A small windfall can actually be shown as a monthly income for life. When you begin to think of things that way, it has far greater meaning.

Why the Rich Get Richer - That’s right, those who are rich tend to only get richer. While there are many ways that people become rich, the SVB takes a different look at the reason the rich keep getting richer.

MBAs Are Becoming More Valuable - Well, this is good news for some, but not for me. I only ever made it half way through my MBA program. It came down to not having the time or money. One of these days I would like to complete it as I think I only need about 18 more credits.

Most Personal Finance Bloggers are Rich, Self-Righteous, and Inflexible - According to a commenter over at MMMM, they are. While there are some good points, I don’t think that is an accurate statement. I’m not rich, don’t claim to be better than anyone else, and I’m extremely flexible. I just share my experiences with others.

One Man Who Beats the Market - I think we all wish we could consistently beat the market, but unfortunately that is a difficult task. Hear the tale of one man who has, and his suggestions for the average Joe investor.

Budgeting for Dummies Part 3 - Creating a budget is about as fun as a root canal at the dentist, but it can seriously improve your financial situation. Take the time to create a realistic budget that you can stick to, and you’ll find you begin to manage your money even better.
