Friday Finance Findings for October 12th
Posted on Sat, 13th October, 2007 by Jeremy
Is October over yet? As I mentioned last week, this is the worst time of the year for me. Ridiculous hours, a lot of traveling, and just otherwise unpleasant activities taking place. For example, as I write this, I’m going on about 3 hours of sleep in the past few days (which is why this is being posted a day late). As much as I’d like to use this weekend to recover, I have to head about 200 miles (driving) east this afternoon to prepare for a wedding. So, while I’m just wishing I could be in bed this weekend, take a moment to enjoy these fine articles from the past week.

Separate Checking Accounts, or Keep Them Joint? - My wife and I have separate checking accounts, but we both have access to both of them. It is more or less used for direct deposit and automatic bill paying, not as a means to keep our money separate. Plus, my wife works in a location that has plenty of Fifth Third branches, whereas I work across the state line and it is nothing but Chase.
What is it Worth to Have Flexible Work Hours? - In my opinion, it is worth quite a bit. I have some flexibility in my schedule, and I think it is one of the best things to happen. You can force someone to stay at the office from 9-5 every day, but that doesn’t mean you’re going to get eight hours of work.

Thanks for pointing me to the “Separate Checking Accounts, or Keep Them Joint?” blog post. I was just thinking of doing this with my girlfriend. It’s very helpful.
