Well, this is it. The last day of November, and we’re only one short month away from 2008. I don’t know about you, but this year has gone by incredibly fast. This time of year is always a bit hectic, from holidays, family gatherings, to making those last minute financial adjustments before the new tax year kicks in. Hopefully some of these great articles from the past week can help.
Top Software Picks for Personal Money Management – Over at About.com I highlighted three of the more common and useful software products for managing your money. Start 2008 off right by organizing your finances on the computer.
How to Find the Perfect Gift for the Lady in Your Life – I’m a typical guy when it comes to buying gifts, which means I suck at it. There are some good ideas to help you find a gift that is better than the $20 her uncle gives her.
Bah Humbug! Tis the Season for Income Taxes – I had a very unpleasant surprise last year when I found out that I owed Uncle Sam. The clock is ticking, but there is still time to make changes for the current tax year.
Cashing in American Express Membership Reward Points – Nickel is cashing in some points, but this reminds me that we need to cash in some of our Chase points. I think we’re able to get about a $250 gift card at Home Depot, and that will help out quite a bit on that new snow blower.
Warning Against Year-End Mutual Fund Purchases – One thing you avoid as the end of the year approaches are unnecessary mutual fund purchases. Many funds do their mandatory distributions, which could mean you are stuck paying the tax on the gains you never saw.
Determining the Mix of Stocks and Bonds in Your Portfolio – There is no right or wrong answer, but as Sun points out, even target date funds with similar objectives can vary significantly. Make sure you know what is appropriate for you, and that your funds are accomplishing that.
Lessons from My Job Hunting Expedition – Finding a new job is never easy or fun, but Golbguru has gone through the trenches and came out with information that can help you when you’re looking for a new job.
Zopa Launch Imminent – Thinking about peer-to-peer lending? Well, Zopa is coming, and it works a little bit differently than Prosper. Lazy Man breaks it all down.
Be Careful When Firefighters or Police Call and Ask You for Money – You do have to be careful, especially this time of year. If you want to give money to your local organizations, call them directly. Make sure that as much money as possible is going into their pockets.
Invest in Yourself by Learning Things of Value – One of the best investments you can make is in yourself. What good does researching stocks and mutual funds if you can never grow and find new opportunities for yourself?
Changing Habits and Thinking Long Term About Personal Finances – NCN has a lot of great ideas to help you change the way you think about your finances. Remember, there is more to it than just the day-to-day things you deal with now.
Making Overseas Experience Count – Spending time in a foreign country, whether it is for work or pleasure is one of the best things anyone can do in order to grow as a person. If your job is going to be sending you overseas, make sure you are able to make the most of it. It is a tremendous opportunity.

Thanks for the link. Living overseas can be tough, but I agree- it’s one of the best moves you can make for your career AND your life.
The Lazy Man link about Zopa sent me to the Golbguru’s article about job hunting.
