I wrote about the same thing this morning.

It's interesting that the size of the fund is roughly the same as it was when they closed. I expect they had more redemptions than deposits with new accounts not being allowed to open.

So, with the expansion of world market capitalization and the new Lange's strategy of going beyond US large cap to investing in small cap and international, there are far more places for the money to be put to use.

But the problem is that it's a totally different fund from the one made famous by Lynch and even from what it was two years ago. What is an investor to expect? We have no idea.

It is a surprise to a lot of people I think. But, it certainly isn't the largest fund on wall street any more, but 45 billion is still huge. But you're right, funds that are so large have a hard time reacting to market changes with so much money changing hands.

I still own a bit of Franklin Income (FKINX) from years ago, and that fund is even bigger at $61 billion. Of course, with more fixed income it is a bit easier to manage that many assets. Even so, I'm not as comfortable in these mega sized funds.

I read this news today and had to do a double-take. I never thought Magellan would reopen. The fact it is so large is almost a turn-off for me...sometimes the bigger things are the longer it takes them to react to things. Sort of like trying to turn an aircraft carrier on a dime.
