Friday Finance Findings for May 2nd
Posted on Fri, 2nd May, 2008 by Jeremy
Spring has finally sprung in these parts, and it is a welcome treat. We were actually below freezing still just a few days ago. Now that the warm weather has arrived, it is finally time to get the plants in the ground this weekend. We already picked up most of what we need for the garden including: a few varieties of tomatoes, basil, Italian parsley, rosemary, and some assorted hot peppers.
In addition, we picked out an assortment of plants to fill the various containers and hanging baskets for around the house. So, it looks like a busy and dirty weekend of taking care of all the planting, but just getting outside in this nice weather is a welcome change. So, if you have time to read anything this weekend, I would recommend the following:
Choosing a Financial Planner - If you are seeking the advice of a professional, there are some things you want to consider before picking the first advisor or planner that shows up in the phone book.
Financial Infidelity: The Leading Cause of Divorce? - Most of us are familiar with the typical meaning of infidelity, but what about when it has to do with money? MDJ takes a look at a recent MSN Money article that discusses the topic.
The Recession Diet and the Shift to Frugal Living - Again, common sense prevails. It is a shame that it takes some sort of economic hardship just to make people act in a way that is smart and can save money.
10 Things to Tell a Graduating High School Senior - What a great list! I wish someone had provided me with these nuggets of wisdom when I was ready to leave high school. Especially number 5 regarding video games. More than a decade later, I still waste a lot of time playing video games.
Real Life Example of Why You Need an Emergency Fund - Nothing drives a point home more than a real life example. I know a lot of finance sites drive this topic into the ground, but it is for good reason.
Free Money Finance’s Tax Mess - Sticking with the real life examples, Free Money Finance shares his tax situation. Even when using a professional, things can get messed up and cause problems.
Carnival of Personal Finance #150 - Lazy Man does a great job in rounding up over 100 submissions in this week’s carnival. If this list of links isn’t enough, the carnival will keep you busy for a week.
10 Ways to Eat Out for Less - In an attempt to save money, a lot of people aren’t eating out as much. That’s good, because food you prepare at home can not only save money, but is often healthier. But if you do still eat out, here are 10 ways to save money doing so.
Investing Advice for New College Graduates - Earlier I linked to some advice for high school seniors, but here is some advice for new college grads. The most important piece of advice is that of time. Time is your greatest asset, or your worst enemy. Choose wisely.
Do You Buy Things From Youth Organizations or Just Donate? - Do you always find yourself buying some trinket or food that you don’t want or need for the sake of supporting a youth organization? It might make sense to just donate directly.
Do You Budget? - I have to say that we do, but the budget is probably not as detailed as it should be. We have allocations of where our money should go, but I think we need to make a better effort in tracking money more closely.
How to Make Your Small Business Fail in 12 Easy Steps - More advice I wish I had found back when I started my first business about 8 years ago. Good advice if you’re thinking about, or have just recently started a business.
JLP Interviews Larry Winget on the Housing Crisis - I love Larry Winget, and if you read this interview, I’m sure you’ll see why.

Thanks for catching that. It should be fixed now.
Nice round-up! Thanks for including my piece. We ended up spending last weekend planting and gardening as well. I’m so happy spring finally arrived.
