I agree with the recent readers widget also. That's the main reason it's in the footer. It might provide more value if it was in a better location, but even then, I'm not exactly sure how much value it provides. So it's probably just wasting bandwidth on the interwebs. It's darker than my taste runs, but it seems to fit. The only things I can come up with that I might change are: the ad in the header draws my eyes away from your logo. A new logo might help with that. Also, the "Recent Readers" box in the footer is useless. I've always felt those are a bit stalkerish (though I'm glad yours doesn't list my location, like some widgets do) and pointless. I don't care who recently visited. I don't normally notice either because it's in the footer, but I wouldn't miss it if it were gone.
