well, I'm not the best example of saving money on my cellphone, my bill is 105 dollars a month average, so i asked my granpa how does he do it! He pays average 7 to 10 dollars a month, and he texts! and talks on his cellphone all the time, he says his Tracfone Senior value cellphone make it possible, so well, ok it's not an iphone, but that's really cheap!

Oh my oh my! Do I have text messages nightmares to share with you! I have two teen doaughters and I was on texting hell... you know I wanted them to have a cool phone and have a good service, but the texting was non stop. Once one texted to the other, during dinner "pass the potatoes?" The bill was killing me I had them on tmobile so I cancelled their phoones and got the cool nice smart phones with Stragiht Talk, but now they can text until their fingers catch fire, because it's unlimited service for only $45!

I agree with you, Tracfone was the solution for my family, my kid were killing my budget with their cellphone bills, but with Tracfone now we are in control of the expenses and plus they've learned to be careful because if the use their cellphone allowance all together they know they wont get anymore minutes until the next month, so it's been a win win.

Finding a phone that fit is key as everyone has different needs. For me, only an unlimited plan will do. I talk/text quite a bit but really do not need any fancy gadget or feel the need to be connected at all times. My StraightTalk phone has been working out great for me. I only pay $45 for unlimited talk/text and never have any issue with dropped calls or poor reception. I've had the phone (going on 3 months now) and so far so good. Althought I must admit I had my doubt at first buying a phone from Walmart but now so glad that I gave it a shot!

Great tips! Finding a phone that fits you is important. My mother was looking for a good phone that was inexpensive but reliable. She got a Tracfone and has been very happy. Tracfone gives people the safety and security of a wireless phone without the problems of a contract and monthly fees.

Great article with GREAT tips. I'd like to share a way that I found to save on my cell bill by getting rid of my cell phone bill all together and switching over to prepaid. I've used the Net10 prepaid service for about a year now and the savings each month are incredible. 10 cents/minute and 5 cents/text - it is perfect for my family. It offers great coast to coast coverage as well. Just thought I'd share this wonderful experience and reccommend the Net10 service to those looking to save and get a great deal in return :)

After the terrible experience I had with AT&T when I tried to change my plan, I just paid the cancellation fee and decided to cut down my talking. Since I cut down my personal talking and I have a business line, I went prepaid and with NET10 based of the advice of a few friends. Sure the phones are basic, but having no contract fees to worry about and steady price bill makes it a good choice for the moderate talker. If you are talking about value, then I think prepaid and NET10 in particular.

Do some research on the plans before you call - very rarely will the new plan (with the same features) be less expensive than the old plan.

Specific example: I got my current plan with Verizon in May '09, featuring 750 shared minutes, unlimited texting and unlimited web for two phones. Now, in July '10, the plan with the same features (750/unlim txt/unlim web on two phones) would be $40 more per month. No thanks!

I bought my blackberry to keep up on emails while I was away from my desk and on the road. My job required me to drive all over the state for conferences, and demo's. I recently took an internship opportunity over sea's. My blackberry is capable of working world wide, but it increased my monthly (Verizon) bill $60! The additional $60 a month provides me with my email/internet service (no additional charge) This does include my blackberry messenger service as well (This is what I use the most to stay in contact with family and friends who are also using a blackberry). Calling would be out of the question at a rate of $2/min, and SMS texting at $.5 outgoing, and $.15 incoming text.

Is there any way for me to save??? I considered suspending my plan for the duration of my internship. (I wouldn't have to pay my bill but it would extend the contract however long it was suspended). It seems that free-wifi hasn't caught on here, and internet service is quite expensive (thus, I took the extra $60 plan).

Cheers!
