I have found some really great sales at the tail end of the holiday season. One year I did all of my Christmas shopping on Christmas Eve and found a lot of great things marked down 35-55%. I went in the evening – around 7 o’clock – and the stores were empty. I was even able to talk a few things down with the store manager.

I like to buy my Christmas gifts after Christmas – when the retailers are trying to get rid of “last year’s” inventory. As far as saving to make the purchases…well that is a little tricky sometimes. But you’re right – it can be done if we just take a good look at what and where we spend.

I found your tone condescending and rude. I don’t have an additional $25/week to cut and many people now don’t. I don’t have a coffee in the morning, I bring my lunch, we eat out once a month not once a week.

I agree with Credit Girl. Retailers know that around the holidays people need to buy gifts so you generally don’t find many sales until after the holidays. After the holidays and during the off season (summer months) would be a perfect time to do your holiday shopping or start saving because you can find some great deals and still have half the year to save up for those holiday purchases.

It seems to me as if things are harder to find and more expensive around Christmas season just because retailers know that they can make a profit. For the most part, I don’t spend too much on Christmas gifts anyway but if I do find a good deal early on I would probably take advantage of it as well. All about being a more conscious shopper!

I’m a big believer in this concept. I start buying Christmas presents right after Christmas is over. I’m not even making a very big or even conscious effort of doing it, I’m just picking up a few things here and there. It makes the holiday season so much more enjoyable if you’re not running around like a crazy person trying to get more done then you have time to do it in. You can just sit back, relax, and hang out with family and friends – which I think is the point of the holidays, don’t you agree?
