Great post Jeremy. Did one of the commentors actually endorse poker as an investment for those hooked on gambling? I know many poker players and it is extremely difficult to win over the long haul. This mainly due to the house 'rake' which is roughly 10% of every pot. The rake serves as a tax for essentially playing the game. Essentially one player per table is eliminated every 30-40 minutes or so just for sitting at the table and paying the normal blind structure.

Let's be serious. Gambling should be an activity for those who can afford to lose a bit while being entertained. It is not an investment based on reading Super System and trolling the FullTilt Poker forums. Gambling systems are made for losers. Over the long haul, only the house wins.

* Are you a buy now and pay later kind of person or do you save now and pay in full later?
    * Are you willing to wait or do you demand immediate gratification?
    * Is your shopping out of control when you’re feeling sad or stressed?
    * Do you have trouble saying no to yourself, kids, spouse or others?
    * Do you waste money on gambling?
    * Do you spend too much on tobacco or alcohol?
    * What is more important to you: buying something or watching your money grow?

I totally agree with this. neither me nor my husband smoke or buy alcohol or party. We figure people who do these things spend about $5000 a year, so instead we save our oney and go on a couple cheap vacations a year- and our friends who party every weekend wonder how we can afford it! lol

Great post, according to me people should ask this question to them self, so they will get clear idea about their spending and they can change their habits.

"•Do you waste money on gambling?"

Hmmm, this is an interesting one. If you like to gamble, I might have the solution to save you: poker. It IS gambling, since you don't know whether you will win or lose, but you could turn your need to gamble into a profitable activity. Most people who play poker at a casino are lifetime losers at the game - specifically retirees and people who come to have some fun after a long day at the office. There is also a lot of inexperienced players that play. If you read books on poker, study the game, read forums, learn a few simple odds, etc. you could play poker for money!

That's my solution to this gambling problem. You can still go to the casino, but treat it as an investment!

Agree, reading is a great start, but if you don't change your mindset and take action it does no good. You have to respect money and what it can mean to your future.
