Friday Finance Findings for February 15th – Looking for a Guest Post or Two

I’m headed to a conference in Texas next week, so I could use a guest poster or two. If you’re interested in having a post here on Generation X Finance, contact me and let me know. The only requirements are that it should be a new post that you don’t currently have on your site, and be personal finance related in nature. You can reprint the piece on your own site, I just ask that you wait a month or two before doing so. I’d need any submissions by Tuesday evening.

In other news, I’m also scheduled to finally sit for my Chartered Retirement Planning Counselor (CRPC®) exam this weekend. Just one more notch in the belt. All I know is that I’ve learned more about retirement plans in the past year than I care to know. So, while I’m taking an exam and packing my bags, I encourage you to take a look at these great articles from the past week.

IRA Tips for Tax Time – I have put together a few quick tips to consider before filing your 2007 taxes. If you haven’t already, there is still time to make a 2007 IRA contribution and take advantage of the tax benefits.

Are You Making One of These Tax Mistakes? – Money Smart Life has some good tax tips from J.K. Lasser. In looking at the list, I can say that I made the mistake a few years ago when my wife and I moved for her new job. We didn’t hire movers or even rent a moving truck, but I didn’t think about all of the other related expenses we could have deducted. Don’t make the same mistake I did.

When and What it Takes to Become a Millionaire – The Sun doesn’t think too kindly of lists stating how to become a millionaire, and instead gives us the plain and simple when and what it takes. Some pretty good information here for sure.

How to Maximize Your Tax Return – A lot of tax discussion on the web this time of year, and there are plenty of ways to save money. Millionaire Money Habits has a tip that can definitely save you a few bucks.

Making Money With an eBay Store: Part 6 – Another great part in this series that shows you how to make money with an eBay store. Back when I sold a lot on eBay, using a store was a big help. These tips would have come in real handy then.

Celebrities and Money: Sarah Michelle Gellar – Curious to see how celebrities handle money? Lazy Man is starting a new series to do just that, and opens with a surprising peek inside Sarah Michelle Gellar’s money habits.

21 Credit Card Mistakes – Using credit and credit cards isn’t a bad thing unless you develop some bad credit card habits. Here is a great list of 21 mistakes you must avoid if you want to use credit wisely.

NCN Podcast: The 3 C’s of Debt Reduction – NCN does a good job breaking down the three C’s of getting out of debt. A good listen.

Looking Back at the History of Stamp Prices – Nickel points out that stamp prices are on the rise again, and does even one better by putting together a nice chart showing the trend in stamp prices.

So You Want to Become a Financial Advisor? – Ciaran over at Chance Favors was interviewed to discuss what it takes to become a financial advisor. This was a good post because I also get a lot of questions that ask the same thing. So, if you’re wondering what it takes, this post should clear some things up.

For Now, Avoid Real Estate Investment Trusts – REITs are real estate investments that trade like more traditional mutual funds, and in recent years have been gaining popularity. But with the current market conditions, are they are good bet?

Apply the 40 Plus Formula to Advance Your Career – You don’t have to be in the office to be working. JLP discusses a book that points out that if you only work the required minimum 40 hours a week, you’ll only survive. Learn how to get ahead in your career with this post and book.

Hi Jeremy, I'd be very keen to write a Guest Post for Gen X finance, provided you think my writing is up to scratch.

I've actually been a lurker here for some time and recently launched my own finance blog and just sent you an email requesting a quick critique of my site :)

Hope to hear from you soon!

Kind Regards,

Jonathan

I saw your comment on AFM, so I sent you a message over on SU. We're already friends on SU, but my username there doesn't identify me very well. But at SU I'm marubozo.

Thanks for the mention, I appreciate that. Glad you got through that post and I'm sure you can relate to a lot of it. When I read your posts, I almost always relate to your experiences, it's kinda funny.

Left a message on JLP's post from last night... what's your StumbleUpon name? wanna hook up there.

Also, so you know... experimenting with leaving comments over there instead of on blog posts, kill two birds with one stone. So I'm sure I'll be stumbling and reviewing GenX over there.
