This is a special Saturday edition of the finance findings. The only thing that makes it special is that I haven’t had time to get to it until today. As I mentioned at the beginning of the month, October is a crazy time at work. I spent this week getting into work around 5 am and not getting home until 6 or 7 in the evening, with no internet access at all during the day. This is a far cry from my typical 9-5 sitting at a computer routine. So, I’m still trying to catch up on a mountain of email and my feed reader, but I did come across these great links so far:
How to Choose a Financial Planner – I put together a quick overview of what to look for when you’re considering a financial planner to help with your finance needs.
Global REIT Provides Weak Correlation – Have a bad feeling about the domestic real estate market? Thanks to weak correlation abroad, you can diversify your real estate portfolio with ease.
Is it Better When You Win It? – eBay’s new advertising campaign does seem to bring attention to how much better it is to “win” something, but are you really winning anything?
Don’t Pay Banking Fees Ever – This should go without saying, but with so much competition in the banking industry, you should never have to pay basic account maintenance fees.
Comcast Cable Bait and Switch – I’ve talked about how to cut your cable bill significantly with just a phone call, but you do have to be careful. Once the promotion is over, your price will jump, and you may not have as many low-cost options. This is one reason we’re switching to the dish in a few weeks.
Another Reason to Value Your Credit Score – Moving? If you’re going to be setting up new utility accounts, be prepared to put down a hefty deposit if your credit score isn’t up to snuff.
Sale Sale Stupid Sale – Are you sick of the fact that nearly everything is on sale, even if it isn’t? You’re not alone.
eBay Takes on Inflated Shipping Charges – This is good news for buyers, but potentially bad news for some sellers. Inflated shipping charges could be used to circumvent paying eBay fees, so it is understandable why this change is taking place.
The Worst Mortgage in the World and a Look at Creative Loans – The mortgage industry has created a ton of creative ways to lend people money for a home. Unfortunately, many of these loans can do more harm than good when used incorrectly.
Need a Raise? Tips for Asking the Boss – We could all use a raise, and it isn’t easy to muster up the courage to ask for one. Here are some tips to help improve your chances in getting that raise when asking for one.
Getting Organized Doesn’t Have to Cost a Lot of Money – You don’t need expensive finance software for your computer or fancy filing cabinets to get organized. You can get your financial house in order with many ordinary things around the house.
