Thanks for some great info. I had no idea that the pre-paid cards are reported to the 3 credit agencies. As a Realtor, these days it's very common for buyers to have credit issues and I can pass on to them that they can obtain a secured card to assist in building their credit score.

I once got a secured prepaid credit card and had no idea I would get charged an activation fee. I really should've read the fine print prior to signing up for it. All in all though, I'd definitely recommend getting a prepaid credit card. It has all the necessities of a normal credit card but has limitations that will help you, too.

If you don't screw it up, the experience is always pleasant. But remember secured cards are good for rebuilding credit. So the chance of ppl screwing up again is quite large.

i have had a secured debit card with Netspend for three years and have had a very positive experience with them. I was charged $9.95 to open the account. I am charged a $2.00 fee each time I deposit money to the card. If I use it as a debit card I am charged a $3.00 fee or a $1.00 fee per transaction if using it as a credit card. Needless to say, I only use it as a credit card where I sign for each purchase. I like the fact that I can set up automatic monthly payments if necessary and only pay $1.00 per transaction. I always deposit a minimum of $100 each time I make a deposit. I have set up my paypal account to transfer money to my Netspend card which is free. All in all, this card suits me and my situation very well.
